From Tree to Cup

Tree - 1

Composting, terracing, leguminous shade trees and mulching are used to maintain fertility and control erosion. We guarantee that no pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers of any kind are used.

Red Cherries - 2

Each tree is harvested three times choosing only the ripened red berries. In order to generate the fullest flavor, the beans are then soaked in clean mountain spring water. This softens the red husk for removal and begins the fermentation process. This stage is crucial in developing a great coffee.

Husk - 3

The beans are dried under the warm tropical sun which brings them to their tan colored "parchment" stage.

Green Bean - 4

The "green" beans are hand sorted, removing any unevenly sized beans which allows for consistently even roasting. The beans are now ready to be exported to the United States, to the Cafe Altura roasting facility.

Decaffeination - 5

Cafe Altura is decaffeinated using the patented "Swiss Water Process" method. Swiss Water decaf uses only water and carbon filters to decaffeinate our organically grown green coffee beans. By using this process, 97% of the available caffeine is removed without the use of chemical solvents. Swiss Water decaffeinated coffee gives you the chemical-free, full-flavor decaf that you have come to expect from Cafe Altura.

Roasting - 6

Only superior grade beans are chosen for Cafe Altura. The special care taken to produce Cafe Altura can be tasted in every cup. Our roastmaster has been roasting Cafe Altura for 15 years and uses the perfect techniques in roasting all of our coffees from our Regular Roast to the spicy Espresso Roast.

Flavoring - 7

There is a very distinct difference between artificial and natural flavors. Artificial flavorings are chemically synthesized. Natural flavorings are actually extracted from the flavor's "source". We are committed to using only natural flavors without propylene glycol!!

Packaging - 8

Cafe Altura is packaged using the latest technology. Fresh out of the roaster, the coffee is sealed in air tight cans for ground coffee and valve-lock bags for whole bean. Customers will always get a fresh tasting cup of coffee from every package of Cafe Altura organic coffee.
