The Search for Flavored Coffee is Over.

After years of research, we found natural flavors that met the high standards of Cafe Altura. There were a number of obstacles to overcome. There is a special agent required to make the flavoring adhere to the coffee beans. This is referred to as a "carrying agent". A common carrying agent throughout the flavoring industry is propylene glycol. This is a petroleum based product commonly found in anti-freeze and deodorant. We have found this agent to be unacceptable! The Demeter Association, which certifies our coffee as organically grown, has prohibited the use of propylene glycol. The flavoring industry was working on developing products using an alternative. So...we waited. In an effort to maintain the high quality and strict standards of Cafe Altura we chose to use a grain based alcohol as our carrying agent. The alcohol is extracted from food stuffs rather than being synthesized.

The next step was to find flavors that would complement the delicate taste of Cafe Altura. We tested many natural flavors and flavor combinations before making a final decision. The flavors that we introduced as our "Crème de la Crème" line are a balanced variety of tastes. The Cinnamon Crème is spicy, the Amaretto Crème has a nice almond flavor, and the French Vanilla Crème is a French Roast coffee with the smooth, sweet taste of vanilla.

The increasing demand for flavorings without propylene glycol has caused the flavoring industry to continue to make technical advancements. As more natural flavorings become available we will continue the process of testing and tasting.
